Meet Hickory

Are you looking for a kitten who’s loving towards humans and other cats? If so, I’m the perfect little guy for you!

I’m a snuggly little guy. I often rub up on my foster mom’s legs and rest my tail against her to ask for pets. Once you start petting me I’m a purr factory. If I hear another cat purring I’ll run over and start purring and snuggling them too. I’m a bit on the shyer side, but I gain a lot of confidence playing with toys and my siblings. I’m very confident meeting new cats, but new people are still a bit scary. The way to my heart is definitely the presence of a calm, friendly cat who can show me that it’s okay to approach you. I come from a long line of bird hunters so I love to chase feather toys flying through the air. My quirkiest trait is that I may sometimes lick your feet and toes. If you can’t find me, don’t worry! I’ve just found a snuggly cave that’s perfectly me-sized for a nap.

Because I’m such a social, snuggly boy, my new home needs to have at least one other cat. I’d be happy to go home with one of my siblings (Walnut, Aspen, or Hazel) or a friendly and confident cat that’s used to your routine. I can be a little rough when I play so another playful boy or girl who can handle herself in a wrestling match would be perfect for me! I’m a gentle and sweet boy who rarely hisses, so I’d be okay around children who can respect my boundaries. I’d prefer a home with no dogs, but I’d probably get along with a calm dog that gives me space. My ideal home has people around most of the time, but I’ll be content with kitty company when my people aren’t home.

We encourage you to consider adopting kittens in pairs! There are several reasons why Hickory would do good with a friend, including:

-Two kittens keep each other entertained - they will play and get all their energy out on each other in time for snuggles with you!

-Having two kittens to play with each other prevents "I'm lonely and bored" behavioral issues.

-Watching two kittens wrestle is quite possibly the cutest thing you will ever see.

-The kittens will teach each other "how to cat" and learn to be more social with humans and people.

-You'll save two lives instead of one!

Hickory is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, and litter box trained. Hickory’s adoption fee is $165.  Please note A.R.F. does not approve applications for any kitten under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit all of our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive early, as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
