Meet Milton
Milton is a 7 month old male Shih Tzu who weighs in at 8.4 pounds. This dog's adoption fee is $850. If you are still interested, please read more below.
Milton came to ARF as a breeder release. It is apparent he has not had much human interaction in his young life. He is looking for a patient home with people who can give him the time to realize humans can be trusted and loved. He will require a quiet home with no children under 12. He would likely do great with another calm, older dog in the home. He is a sweet, quiet young pup who will blossom if given the time and space to do so.
Here is an update from Milton's foster:
After 3 weeks with
his foster, Milton has turned into the snuggliest snugglebug you would ever want to meet! He still is determined to play "hard to get" - he will not choose to come to me (If I sit on the floor with a treat in my outstretched hand, he will carefully take the treat, but if I so much as move in any way, he startles and runs away) but he "allows" me to catch him so easily now. If I carefully turn over one chair in the kitchen, so as to "block his path" away from me, he will go into a neutral corner and just wait for me to come pick him up. This week-end he attended his first adoption event, and after a short time, he happily allowed himself to be held by anyone who wanted to do so. At my home, he lets me hold him, pet him, and even brush him with no complaints - today for over two and a half hours! Milton has a lot to say to me, but only if I am in the kitchen with him- it is very rare that he ever barks if I am not right with him. (I suspect he is telling me to "Get with it, turn over a chair so I can pretend I am giving up, and you can hold me some more!" but I don't speak "dog" so I am not sure) He is piddle-pad trained, but will still need work toward being completely housebroken. He definitely still prefers wet food over dry, but is now eating very well - two meals a day. He walks on a leash, but not very far yet- that will take a bit of time, too! I have no doubt Milton will make a patient adopter a beautiful, gentle pet for a lifetime!
Milton is microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered. This dog's family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you are interested in adopting this dog, fill out an Online Application today! Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit all of our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.
If you’re invited to meet an animal:
- Plan to arrive early, as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
- All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.
Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
