Meet Skeeter

Skeeter is a one-year old, 60 pound, hound/lab mix of sweet dog and when he wags his tail, his whole behind wags with it with utter joy!  Skeeter is still a young dog and will need some help with consistency for house training.  Skeeter is crate trained.  He has a sweet and loving temperament and very willingly rolls over to have his belly rubbed.

Skeeter absolutely loves people and other dogs and is always up for making a new friend. He loves to be scratched and petted, especially on the neck under his chin and on his back and rear. He is super cute and playful with toys, and LOVES anything that squeaks. He especially loves little squeaky balls and will chase them around the house or yard with his people for hours.

He is never happier than when he is out exploring the world on the end of a leash with his people. He is an ideal hiking, running, and jogging partner. He is great at keeping pace and has never tired on any of the runs he takes with his human. He is always up for adventure and is a great companion for car trips, picnics, the beach, etc.

Skeeter is looking for a home where he can get adequate, consistent exercise on a daily basis.  Think things like going for a daily run with his human, or having another young dog to play with.  When he's lacking for stimulation, he will seek it out through destructive behaviors: counter surfing, jumping up on furniture to reach forbidden objects, chewing furniture and books, and even mouthing his people. These behaviors disappear completely when he is adequately exercised.

He is a very gentle dog in the house and very tolerant. When a toddler has pulled his tail and otherwise purposefully aggravated him, he displays minimal reaction. When he gets tired of it, he will simply walk away. He always wants to be with his people and will follow you around the house. He is not protective of his toys or food, and is eager to share playtime with his people.

He loves to chew and can easily dismantle most "dog toys." The only chew toys that hold his interest so far are rib bones and yak cheese. He will also continue to play with and chew on his small squeaky balls long after they have quit squeaking.

He is still very much an exuberant puppy with an excess of energy. When he is overexcited, he will sometimes forget his manners and jump up on people or take off after cars and squirrels.  This may be a bit much for small children only because he simply does not know his own size. He is trying to learn to be a good dog, and will make a great addition to any fun-loving, adventurous family.

Skeeter is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered.  His new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.

Skeeter's adoption fee is $400.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Skeeter fill out an Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
