Meet Dolly

Dolly is her name and being in charge of her human(s) is her game.  Dolly is a very spunky 9 year old cream color poodle mix who weighs in at 8 pounds.   Dolly has had quite a ride the last few months since she arrived to ARF in early December 2020. Originally from Kentucky, her previous owner unfortunately passed away and no one in the family was willing to take her in.  Dolly came to us in deplorable condition— she didn’t appear to have had good veterinary care in a very long time, if ever.  She hadn’t been groomed for an interminable time and even her matts had matts—that was the first thing we did upon her arrival.

When we took her to the vet, we learned that she needed to have quite a bit done to get her healthy again. First was getting her spayed. While anesthetized for her spay, we repaired a hernia and removed 3 mammary masses.  She came through that like a champion bouncing back quickly.

Second was her mouth.  It was soon apparent that her teeth were causing her a great deal of pain and likely had done so for a lengthy period of time.  She was very snappy if you tried to mess with her mouth in any way.  Since receiving a dental and having more than 12 teeth removed, her oral pain level has diminished greatly.  That combined with developing a strong trusting bond with her foster parents, has caused her to allow them to touch her mouth/head without snapping at them any longer.  However, she isn’t a pushover and still will not allow strangers that same privilege.  Dolly was born with luxating patellas, causing her to shuffle along to walk without discomfort.  To allow her to have a more normal gait without pain, we repaired the worst of these luxating patellas.  Now she is walking in a much more normal gait, she is running whenever she wants to, and is a much happier dog than when she arrived to ARF.

Dolly is currently living in a foster home with 2 adult males, a large Greyhound, and several small breed dogs.  She resource guards the humans in the house from the other dogs or children.  She feels that she should be the only dog to cuddle with her foster parents, the only dog to be pet by her foster family.  Dolly will be happiest in a quiet home, being the Queen of castle, with 1-2 adults to wait on her hand and foot.  She is able to communicate very clearly to her people what her likes and dislikes are.  She seems particularly fond of mature adults who will give her some time to settle in and develop a bond with them, ideally with no other dogs or kids.  She is not good with cats, she feels that they are a tasty snack!

Dolly is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed.  Her new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.

Dolly's adoption fee is $350.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Dolly fill out an Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
