Meet Aspen aka Rosie

Rosie is a 1-year-old old Coonhound/boxer mix who weighs 50 pounds. She is very smart, loves to play with her fosters and other dogs, and to run around outside sniffing everything.

Through no fault of her own, Rosie has been shuffled around a bit and because of this disruption in her formative training time, she has grown very head strong and is working on breaking some bad habits. Rosie is making great progress with her ARF fosters! She needs someone to be her leader - to spend daily training time with her, and be consistent with training and expectations. This will bring her to the wonderful well-behaved dog she is when that consistency is provided.

Rosie is very training motivated and loves to learn and please, she just needs consistency. She is fully house trained and knows the basics of sit, give paw, down, and is eagerly learning more every day. Unless corrected, Rosie will try to get away with most anything else in the house - like bolting out the door and counter surfing - mischievous stuff.  When corrected, Rosie responds well and will sit and eagerly await pets or a treat. She is becoming much more well-behaved at her foster home where she is receiving individual attention and training. She now knows to sit and wait before she is allowed out a door and that if she wants treats or positive attention, she cannot jump on counters or on her fosters.

Rosie would thrive in an environment with other dogs or older kids. She loves having a large yard to run around in and is learning leash manners – she walks well but wants to pull so she’s working on this with daily walks. Rosie enjoys soft toys that squeak and honk, ropes that she can tug with, and especially loves bones. She is currently very high energy and would play all the time if allowed, but she is learning to also enjoy down time with her fosters. Rosie does not have a mean bone in her body, she LOVES and wants to meet everyone. Her favorite treats are love and affection (and beggin’ strips).

This pup is micro-chipped and up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained, and spayed.  The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.  The pup's adoption fee is $400.  Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today!  https://www.arf-il.org/adopt/application/  Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.  ARF is an all volunteer organization.  Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved.  Thank you for your patience!

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
