Meet Wendell **Tripod**

Don’t Feel Sorry For Me!

Although my life didn’t start out great, I have become just about the strongest, most confident cat you’ll ever meet. My foster family believes that I once belonged to a loving family but I snuck out to explore the sites and streets of Chicago. They think this because I love being pet, snuggling in bed or on the couch, or even just relaxing next to you. The difficult part came when I went to cross a street and was hit by a car and left on the side of the road. My back legs were smashed. A kind person picked me up and took me to Cook County Animal Control. My injuries were too severe for them to handle so they reached out to rescues in the area. ARF stepped up. I was quickly assessed by a local vet and it was determined that I needed my back right leg amputated and left leg casted. After I healed from the amputation, it was decided that I needed additional surgery on my left leg. Once again, ARF stepped in to cover the cost and the surgery was a success. This final surgery has left me stronger than ever! I race around the house chasing toys and my favorite young resident cat. I can climb up onto the couch, a bed, and even climb to the top of a cat tree. My foster family even catches me jumping over the dog gate occasionally.

So, even though I am a very handsome, shiny all black cat who is incredibly strong and confident, I have a few behaviors that my foster family cannot change. I never learned my lesson - I still want to go outside. You will often find me hanging out by the door to sneak past people, therefore whoever adopts me will need to be careful. Next, although I found my favorite cat buddy in my foster’s house, I tend to dominate over the other two senior cats in the house. My family also has a 120 pound dog that I like to annoy. I don’t mind sharing his dog bed with him, but I prefer to rule over him otherwise.

In all seriousness, Wendell is AMAZING! We have been fostering him for 8 months and have often talked about adopting him ourselves. However, our two resident senior cats and our senior dog need a ton of attention right now. Like we said, Wendell is truly impressive. He will never hide from strangers because he thinks everyone is going to love him. He wants to be part of the action and never shies away from loud noises and/or people. To be fair to your resident pets, we think Wendell might need to be the only cat in the house. Although he doesn’t go after the other pets, he does truly want to be “king of the house”. He does however have a favorite giant young cat who he loves playing with and sleeping next to - go figure! Although Wendell can easily move around the house and is the picture of good health, for safety reasons with his legs, we feel he should be in a house that doesn’t have young children. Older children or teens will make him happy as he is used to having lots of people around.

Wendell is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, neutered, and litter box trained.

Wendell's adoption fee is $ 135. If you are interested in meeting Wendell please fill out our Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
