Meet Petey

My name is Petey!  I am about a 1 year old male Mountain Cur Mix and weigh approximately 28 pounds.  I am a bit shy, but I am positive I will warm up to you!  So far I have warmed up to all the new people I have been introduced to; I just like to take my time to make sure you are nice.  The reason I'm shy is because a person hurt me and broke my tail, and now I just like to be sure about people before trusting them.  I like most other dogs, but can be aggressive when I first meeting a new dog.  Once I realize they are just more playmates, then I am like "bring it!!"  Cats are OK and I am just not sure about kids at all.  So far I am just timid around kids and I bark at them, but I might warm up to kids given time.  I had never been on a leash until a month or so ago.  I am OK with it now, but so far I don’t love leash walks.  I am sure I will learn to love it because I see how much other dogs love this, just make sure I have a  well fitted halter that I can’t wriggle out of.  I would prefer a fenced yard so I could just run outside and do my potty (which I do like to do in private behind the bushes).  I love to cuddle and get pets!  Wait 'til you see how soft my fur is, especially around my ears. Oh!  And if you have toys at your house I really like toys, and hard bones to chew on.   I have learned to sit on command. I always knew how to sit (of course) but now I do it when the people tell me to, like when they are ready to feed me or give me a treat.  I really don’t like to be left alone. I get nervous, but if you leave me with stuff to do while you are gone, I don't get myself into trouble.   You might want to confine or crate me just to be sure - but keep in mind - I am a fantastic jumper and jump over just about anything, its one of my talents!  I would LOVE a furever home of my own. I hear these people talk about it, so I am hopeful someone reading this will take a chance on me.  I do have a twin brother that I get along with really well in case you might want a pair of us . . . his name is Bert.

Petey is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housetrained and neutered.  His new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing.

Petey's adoption fee is $350.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
