Meet Ollie **NO MORE APPLICATIONS **

Meet Ollie, a purebred Standard Poodle, who is 6 months old and currently weighing 30 pounds.   When fully mature (between 15 – 24 months), he may weigh anywhere between 40 – 70 pounds.

Ollie is a sweet, lovable puppy with lots of energy and brains to boot!  Ollie will need daily exercise to help him burn some of that energy.  He is an avid lover of all toys, and frequently will take out all his toys at once!  He plays fetch, knows “sit” and enjoys chewing his toys in your lap.  But this special boy is in his "teen" years and needs an experienced canine owner or individual willing to commit to advanced training with Ollie.

Standard Poodles are notoriously mouthy at that 'teenage' stage and Ollie is no exception   However, the good news is, with proper training, it is possible to stop Ollie from biting completely.  We have begun using the following techniques to discourage this behavior:

Alternative Object:  Give him something else to chew on; always have a toy on hand to substitute for your hand/foot/etc.

Attention Deprivation:  When playing and he bites, we end playtime and take him to his crate. No drama, no attention at all.   When this happens consistently, he will start associating biting with an end to things he likes.

Reinforce Positive Behavior:  Whenever Ollie is calm and relaxed, we give him a treat and follow with verbal praise like “good dog”.   Eventually he will start to understand which good habits earn treats and may be motivated to show positive behaviors more often.

Only applicants with prior Standard Poodle experience will be considered..  Standard Poodles are elegant, energetic athletes that excel in advanced obedience and agility competitions.  They are one of the smartest and most trainable of all breeds.  Poodles are a "thinking" dog who pays rapt attention to their owner, learns quickly, and responds eagerly to positive training methods. Indeed, Standard Poodles NEED some sort of mental stimulation in order to be happy.  This intelligent breed cannot simply sit in the backyard and be ignored.

Ollie is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and neutered.  His new family will be required to complete, at a minimum, a basic obedience course of their choosing.

Ollie's adoption fee is $600.  A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Ollie fill out an Online Application today!

Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.

If a cat or dog is on our website, it is still available for adoption but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, submit a no-commitment application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process. Due to a high volume of applications, we are often unable to respond to questions until your application has been approved in approximately 3-5 business days.

We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.

A.R.F.-Animal Rescue Foundation does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals.  The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we give priority to pre-approved applicants.

If you’re invited to meet an animal:

  • Plan to arrive on time (or early), as we cannot hold animals for any reason.
  • All human household members and dogs (if adopting another dog), must be present in order to be considered as a potential adopter.

Thank you for your interest and cooperation!
